The Information of Helen Smith Servant to Doctor Brisbone in Great
Titchfield Street in the Parish of St Mary le bone in the County of Middx
Spinster , taken upon Oath this Eleventh Day of April 1772 before Me
John Lane< no role > Esqr . One of his Majesty's Justices of the peace in & for the said County

This Informant upon her Oath declareth and Saith,
That about Two o Clock Yesterday a Person now present who Calls himself
John Hamilton< no role > called upon this Informant at her said Masters House
& told this Informant (who was going to leave her place at Dr. Brisbanes)
that he desired She wou'd go to Enquire after a place he knew of as wou'd
suit her at No 2. in Warwich Court Holborn directly for that he had received
a Message Whereby she this Informant was required to be in Warwick Court
that very Day at 3 o Clock In Consequence of which this Informant went
there immediately And as John Hamilton< no role > was know to this Informant
by having lived fellow Servant together at one Mr. Paxton's in Charlotte
Street she went away for Warwick Court and left John Hamilton< no role > in
Dr Brisbane's House Alone in Titchfield Sheet AforesaidAnd when
this Informant came to the place John Hamilton< no role > had recommended her
to (Viz No.2 in Warwick Court) the Woman who this Informant believes
is the Mistress of the said House, Opened the Door to her And this Informant
asked her if Miss White was within (who was the person John Hamilton< no role >
had recommended her to go to.) The Misstress of the House made Answer
that Miss White had been gone from there every Since Michaelmas last
And that during this Informants said Absence from Dr. Brisbane's in
Titchfield Street (There being no other person left in the said Doctors
House but the said John Hamilton< no role > ) she found at her return there
that her Box which She swears was safely Locked when she went
out, had during her Absence been broke open And that one Silk Gown
One Cotton Gown, One pair of Stays, and Two Silk Handkerchiefs her Goods
and property had been feloniously taken and Carried away; And that at
her said return home to Titchfield Street , there was no John Hamilton< no role >
there for he was gone, and had left the Key of the Street Door in the Lock
on the Outside thereof. And therefore this Informant doth Positively and
Expressly upon her said Oath charge the said John Hamilton< no role > with having
feloniously Stolen and taken and Carried away the said things herein before
mentioned,
