An Inquisition indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at The Parish of Saint Paul Shadwell
in the County Middlesex , the seventeenth Day of October in the twenty fifth Year of the
Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the third , by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland, KING Defender of
the Faith, Etc. before Thomas Phillips< no role > one of the Coroners of our said Lord
the KING, for the said County, on view of the body of a Negre Man called George
then and there lying dead upon the Oath of John Berger< no role > , John Wilson< no role >
John Hall< no role > , William Taylor< no role > , Thomas Arnold< no role > , Adam Scott< no role > , Robert Byford< no role > , Joseph
Taylor, John Powneby< no role > , John Crutcher< no role > , William Merchant< no role > , Thomas Ecle< no role > William Shoebrooke< no role >
Charles Maybrick< no role > , Thomas Randall< no role > , John Thomas< no role > , Thomas Wheeler< no role > and Robert Maberly< no role >
good and lawful Men of the said County duly chosen as by Law required And [..] who
Prisoners within the said Prison, which said lawful Men and Prisonerbeing then and there duly sworn
and charged, to enquire for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by what means the said Negro Man called
George came to his Death, Do upon their Oath say, That the said Negro
Man called George on this seventeenth Day of October in the Year aforesaid was
found drowned and suffocated at Bell Wharf in the Parish and County aforesaid
That the said Negro Man called George had not any Marks of violence appearing
about him And how or by what Means he became drowned and Suffocated on Evidence
doth appear to the said Jurors

In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said John Berger< no role > the Foreman of
the said Jurors, on Behalf of hims elf and the rest of his Fellows, in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their
Hands and Se als, the Day and y ear first abovementioned.
