An Inquisition indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at The Parish of Saint
Paul Shadwell in the County Middlesex the Eleventh day of October in the twenty fifth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third , by the grace of god of Great Britain France, and
Ireland , King Defender of the Faith, Etc. before Thomas Phillips< no role > one of the Coroners of our
said Lord the King, for the said County, on view of the Body of John Simmonds< no role >
then and there lying dead upon the Oath of Thomas Overton< no role > , John Barrett< no role > , Christian Awe< no role > , William

good and lawful Men of the said County duly chosen as by Law required and who being then and there duly
sworn and charged, to enquire for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by what means the said John
Simmondscame to his Death, Do upon their Oath say, That the said
John Simmonds< no role > on the twenty Eighth Day of September in the Year aforesaid being
in a Barge called The Generous Friends which was then in the River Thames Strearling
through London Bridge It so happened That the said Barge Struck against one of the
Sterlings of the said Bridge By Means whereof he the said John Simmonds< no role > then and
there accidentally, casually and by Misfortune fell from the said Barge into the River
aforesaid, and was in the Waters thereof then and there suffocated and drowned, of Which
said Suffocation and Drowning he the said John Simmonds< no role > then and there died And so
the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid Do say That the said John Simmonds< no role > in
manner and by the Means aforesaid accidentally, casually and by Misfortune came to
his Death

In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said Thomas Overton< no role > the Foreman of
the said Jurors, on Behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows, in their Presence, have to this Inquisition set
their Hands and Seals the Day and Year first abovementioned.
