Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say at the parish of Saint Giles without
Cripplegate in the Ward of Cripplegate without in
London aforesaid this 10th. day of January 1799 on
view of the body of Samuel Knight< no role > and here lying
Dead

Elizabeth Irons< no role > Spinster maketh Oath that she has been Servant to the
deced Samuel Knight< no role > about twelve Months that the deced rented Apartments at Mr. Knott
Beach Street< no role > Haberdasher & Hosier that the deced was a Clark at the
Bank & a married ManThat between fire & six on Monday we the deced
came home that he had his Ten with his wife went into his Best Chamber to wash
himselfThat a little after Dept. heard [..] something go off Dept
which Dept & appeared to a Squile let off by some Children the Street Dept and
& her Mistress were in the Kitchen at the time [..] while after
Dept. Mistress sayed she wandered where the decad was a Dept went
on the Leads one pr of Stairs where the privy is to took for the deced and
saw the deced sitting on the seat of the privy his Head leaning against the Wainscott< no role >
of the privy and seeing him Head bhody and blood on the Floor Dept.
was very much alarmed Dept. saw something like a Pistol on the Floor
Dept. she camed out That Mr. Knotts Shopman came up and got the
deced into his Bed Room that he was quite Dead thenDept. says the
decad has been low spirited Dull and Melancholy these three or four
Weeks pastDept. says the decad has behaved differently these three or
four Weeks past to what he used to doDept. say the decad appeared very
low spirited on Monday Morning before he went out

Matthew Bell< no role > Shopman to Mr. Knott of Beech that Haberdasher maketh
Oath that between five and six o Clock on Monday Eve last in consequence of
the alarm by the servant of the decad he went up to the privy & found the deced
in manner described by the last WitnessThat in a little while after a
Surgeon came and Dept a pistol to take the deced into his Bed Room that
he was quite dead Dept. saw a Pistol taken from among the blood on the
floor of the privythat the deced had a large wound or hole in his forehead
which appeared to have been done by a Pistol Ball
