An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish of
Saint John within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the third
day of January in the thirty ninth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord< no role > George the
third King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of
our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the
body of John Smith< no role > now here lying dead by the oath of William Sage< no role > , John Ridge< no role >
Richard Hough< no role > , Joseph Blackstone< no role > , Thomas Downing< no role > , Thomas Ford< no role > , John Burton< no role > , John
Tevney, Charles Lyall< no role > , John Huddebull< no role > , John Watts< no role > , William Liddard< no role > , and William
Wigmore, good and lawful men of the Borough of Southwark aforesaid in the County
aforesaid who being now here duly chosen Sworn and charged to inquire for our said
Lord the King when how and in what manner the said John Smith< no role > came to his death
say upon their oath that the said John Smith< no role > on the thirty first day of December in the
year aforesaid at the parish and Borough aforesaid in the County aforesaid was sick and diseased
in his body of which said sickness and disease the said John Smith< no role > on the said thirty first day
of December in the year aforesaid at the parish and Borough aforesaid in the County aforesaid
did dieAnd so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said John
Smith by the visitation of God died a natural death and by no violent means or
manner whatsoever In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said William
Sage the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in
their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and
place first above written.
