Southwark

An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King as the parish
of Saint John within the Brough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the third day
of May in the thirty sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the
grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth
before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London
and Borough of Southwark on view of the body of William Denney< no role > now here lying deadby
the oath of Robert Artley< no role > George Dawson< no role > James Daniels< no role > Emanuel Warne< no role > Richard Hamerton< no role >
Christopher Mote< no role > Samuel Watkins< no role > James Smith< no role > George Squires< no role > John Langhilt Joseph
James and Thomas Asplin< no role > good and lawful men of the Brough of Southwark aforesaid
who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King
when how and in what manner the said William Denney< no role > came to his death say upon
their oath that the said William Denney< no role > on the thirtieth day of April in the year aforesaid being
on a certain ladder there one end of which said ladder was placed on a certain wharf there situate called
Symonds wharf and the other end on a certain vessell lying on the river of Thomas It so happened that
the said William Denney accidentally casually and by misfortune fell from and off the said ladder
into the said River and in and with the waters of the said River was then and their suffocated
And drowned of which said suffocation and drowning the said William Denney< no role > did then and
there die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said William
Denney in manner and by the means aforesaid accidentally casually casually and by misfortune
was suffocated and drowned In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Robert
Artley the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in their
presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place first
above written.
