An Inquisition indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London, that is to say, at the Parish of Saint
Mary le Bone in the Ward of Cheap in London aforesaid on the fifteenth day of November in the twenty ninth year of the reign of our
Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith Etc before Thomas Shelton< no role >
Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of John Cook< no role > now here lying
dead by the oath of Bilton Metcalf< no role > Joseph Hodson< no role > , Thomas Kinder< no role > , John Pope< no role > , Thomas Wilkinson< no role > , John Macklin< no role > , William Sharp< no role > , Peter
Thornton, James Buchanon, David Betson< no role > , William Nelson< no role > , Richard Goodwyn< no role > , Samuel Till, James Speight< no role > , Daniel Lovell< no role > and
Thomas Platt< no role > good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for
our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said John Cook< no role > came to his death say upon their oath that the said John Cook< no role >
not being of sound mind memory and understanding but lunatic and distracted on the fourteenth day of November in the twenty ninth year
aforesaid at the Parish and Ward aforesaid in London aforesaid one end of a certain piece of Cord of the value of one penny to and about a
certain Iron Staple then and there fixed in the Wall of a certain Bed Chamber in the Dwelling house of one Henry Atkins< no role > there situate
and the other end of the said Cord round [..] his own Neck then and there did fix tie and fasten by means whereof he the said John
Cook did then and there hang strangle and suffocate himself Of which said hanging strangling and suffocation he the said John Cook< no role > did then
and there die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said John Cook< no role > not being of sound mind memory and
understanding but lunatic and distracted in manner and by the means aforesaid did hang and kill himself Witness whereof as well
the said Coroner as the said Bilton Metcalf the Foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows in their presence have
to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place first above written
