The Minutes of the last Vestry of the 17th. September
Read and Confirmed.

Organist

Mr. Church Warden Barry acquainted the Gentlemen
present that this Vestry was held pursuant to Public
notice given in the Church to take into Consideration the
present Vacancy for the Office of Organist, by the death
of Mr. John Bennett< no role > .

The several Orders of Vestry of the 23d. Janry 1752
and the 2d. April 1752 were read.

Ordered that so much of an Order of Vestry dated the
27th. day of July 1749 which directs that the Person who
shall be chosen Organist do attend in Person twice on
every Sunday and other usual Festivals, and have no
Deputy but in case of sickness be now confirm'd.

Election by
Ballot

Resolved unanimously that the method of proceeding
in the Election of Organist be by Ballot.

After some debate in order to fix on a proper time for
the several Candidates to play on the Organ. It was
moved by Mr. Viner, That the several Candidates who
shall deliver in their Names to the Church Warden on or
before Monday next be desired to play on the Organ next
Tuesday to give a specimen of their Abilities; each Person
to perform for a time not exceeding half an hour to play
Alphabetically and by turns, and to begin at four o'Clock
in the Afternoon precisely.-which was seconded.

Some objection being made to this Motion, Mr. Green
Moved that the several Candidates do play on Sundays
one in the Morning and an other in the afternoon - which
was also Seconded - and the Question being put on each
Motion severally there appeared to be a considerable
Majority for the first Motion as made by Mr. Viner.

Ordered that the several Candidates be desired to
play next Tuesday at the time and in manner above
mentioned and that each of them do begin with playing
the Tune of the Old 104th. Psalm.
Ordered that Thursday next the 17th. of October Instant be
