New Prison
viewedThe Committee viewed the New Prison
(accompanied by Dr. Monro
and the other Medical Officers) and being of Opinion that it was
perfectly dry and in a proper state to be occupied with safety and
without any risque in respect to the Health of the Prisoners
Furniture to be
Purchd.Ordered that the Surveyor do give directions for providing
suitable Furniture and Accomodations for the same with Bedsteads
for the seperate Cells and such other conveniences as may be absolutely
necessary and that the Hemp Blocks be removed into the rooms
prepared for that purpose
Porter, Temporary &
Porter's Man to occupy
the Houses prepared
for them.Ordered that the Temporary Porter and Porter's Man do occupy
the Houses prepared for them at each end of the New Prison
and
that the Surveyor do give directions for fitting up the same with
Shelves and such other conveniencies as may be deemed absolutely
necessary
Room for Surgeon &
Apothecary's use to
be fitted up.Ordered that the Upper room adjoining to the Infirmary be
fitted up with such drawers and Shelves as may be proper for the
use of the Surgeon and the Apothecary.
Sink to be madeOrdered that the Surveyor do give directions for making a Sink
at the South East end of the lower Gallery
Beds & Bedding to be
provided.Ordered that the Steward do provide a sufficient number of Beds
and Bedding similar to those used in the Women's Prison.
Ordered that as soon as the above Works are compleated that the
Prisoner's be immediately removed
