Continued Thursday 14th. Janry 1796 .

The minutes of the joint Committee of the 6th. of January Instant
convened upon the vacancy of the Office of Clerk to consider what has been
or ought to be its duty and Salary were read whereby it appeared.

That the Committee were of opinion that a Clerk is necessary

And were further of opinion that the duties of the Office are
sufficiently laid down and explained in Payer 32 & 33 of the
printed Book of the standing Rules and Orders and that the
some connected with the other Standing rules and Ordered were
and ought to be the duties of Clerk to these Hospitals.

That the Treasurer had communicated to the Committee a Letter
he received from the Revd. Thos. Bowen< no role > respecting the fee usually
paid by new Governors on receiving their charge Whereupon
a motion was made and Seconded that the Clerk be permitted
" to receive for his own use the fee usually given by a new Governor
" on receiving his charge" but the previous question being
moved and put whether the said question be then put the
same was resolved in the negative.

That the Committee were of opinion that a Salary of £200
Pr. Annm with the other Emoluments incident to his situation
should be continued to the future Clerk, but that he should
not have or receive any perquisites from the Hospitals.

Resolved unanimously that the Court do agree with the report of the
Committees respecting the duties and Salary of Clerk except as to that part
which respects the fee hither to given to the Clerk by Governors on receiving
their charge.

Resolved unanimously that in future no fee shall be permitted to be
taken by the Clerk or any other person on reading the charge on the admission
of a Governor and

That a Copy of this resolution be annexed to the letter sent to each new
Governor by the future Clerk informing him of his Election.

The Security of Clerk


Resolved unanimously that the future Clerk do give Security for the
faithful performance of the various trust consided to him himself in
£1000 and two other Securities in £500. each.
