"the Office of Alderman of this City Sam under the necessity of also
"relinguishing that dislinguished Honour, to which the general Voice of

of Bridewell
and Bethlem Hospitals
had raised me an
"Honour I shall never recall to memory but with Sentiments of
"Gratitude and Pleasure.A Readiness at all times to convene my
"Brother governors
and a Punctual Attendance on my part when
"so convened have invariably marked my Conduct ever since I filled
"the Chair This and this only merit shall I pretend to: In this I

will bear me Testimony. May no future
"Accident diminish the Lustre of two so benevolent, so truly Royal

It is Ordered that it be referred to the House Committee to
Search for Precedents of Resignations of Presidents and also to
Consider how far by Law a Person resigning his Office of
Alderman must be disqualified from being President of these
Hospitals and that they report their Opinion thereon to this Court.

Hospital
and Precinet in the words and figures following Vizt.
"That your Worships were pleased to allow the Sum of £.72.0
as an Additional Aid towards defraying the Expences of the Poor
Watch and Scavanger for two Years ending at Lady Day 1776
exclusive of the Sum of £24. paid Annually by the Steward of
the said HospitalThat the Poors rate has been gradually
Increasing for several Years chiefly owing to the decrease of
Artsmasters and several Houses in the Precinet being pulled down
