Stewards in course for
Election Feast 1740.}


At this Court the Governors hereafter named Vizt.

Oliver Marton< no role > Esqr .Mr. Samuel Moore< no role > John Hall< no role > Esqr .
Sr . John Napier< no role > Barrt Thomas Hardy< no role > Esqr Sr . George Wynne< no role > Bart
Mr. Thomas Skipp< no role > Henry Hoare< no role > Esqr .Pelsant Reeve< no role > Esqr .
Mr. William Poole< no role > Mr. Richard Clavering< no role > Dr . John Beaufort< no role >
were chosen Stewards for the next Election day of these Hospitals who
are desired to provide a Dinner as their bien Venue for the President
Treasurer and Governors to dine together according to ancient Custom
and in case any of the Steward elected decline or refuse the same the
Clerk is to supply the Number in course.

At this Court Mr. William Wenden< no role > and Mr. John Holditch< no role > were
confirmed Chappellwardens.

Apprentice made free


At this Court John Pearson< no role > who served his Apprenticeship in this Hospital
to Mr. William Wenden< no role > , one of the Artsmasters by Indre dated the 23d. of
January 1732/3 was Ordered to be made free of this City.

Artsmar. Order for Election
in the room of Mr. Vaughan}


Ordered that the Election of a Artsmaster in the room of James Vaughan< no role >
removed be at the next Court and that Notice thereof be incerted in the
Tickets.

Engine Looms none to be
set up without the leave
of the Court}


Upon reading the humble Petition of several Master Engine Weavers
whose names are thereto subscribed on behalf of themselves and several
others in that branch of Trade SettingforthThat they are
informed that Thomas Keil< no role > an Engine Weaver petitions to be Elected an
Artsmaster of this Hospital in the room of Mr. James Vaughan< no role > removed
That there are already more Apprentices brought up in the Engine
Trade than can get their bread by Journeywork and several of them
when they are out of their Apprenticeships are obliged to follow other
EmploymentsThat the Petrs. cannot possibly ever employ any of the
Boys that are brought up in this Hospital which must consequently
reduce them to poverty and want when they are out of their Apprenticeships
That by an Order of Court the 5th. of February 1719/20 the Govrs.
were pleased to Order that no more Engine Looms be set up in this
Hospital without Leave of the CourtAnd praying the Governors
to take this matter into Consideration and to make such Order therein
as to them should seem meetIt is Ordered That no Engine Looms
be set up in this Hospital without the especial Leave of the Court.
