Upon reading a Letter from Benjamin Crakanthorp< no role > Hempdresser
One of the Artsmasters of this Hospital Directed to the Right Worshipfull
the president the Worshipfull the Treasurer and Governor s of the Hospital of
Bridewell London to the Effect followingHumbly return your Worships
thanks for the many favours I have received from you since I have been
Admitted One of your Artsmasters my business requiring me to Leave off
the Dressing of Hemp and Flax which is a Branch of the Trade in which
the Prisoners Comitted to this Hospital are Imployed to fitt the Kemp
for our use and it not Suiting with my Conveniency to carry on that part of
the Trade any longer therefore beg Leave to Surrender my Place of
Artsmaster and that I may be at Liberty to Quit my Apartment about
Michaelmas next. It is Ordered. That it be referred to the
Comittee of this House to Consider what is proper to be done with the
said Crakanthorps Apprentices

Upon reading the Humble Petition of John Ashwell< no role > Setting forth
That he Served his Apprenticeship to Gabriel Bestman< no role > Weaver one of the
Artsmasters of this Hospital by Indenture dated the 24th. August 1714
And by an Order of this Court of the 17th. day of November 1721. He was on
the 20th. day of the same Month made free of this City And is Sett up for
himselfe in his said TradeAt Mr Legows over against the White
Lyon in Lambeth Marsh And Mr Treasurer Reporting to this Court That
the Comittee of this House on the 1st. June last Inspected the Book kept of
the apprentices behaviour and found no Complaint against himIt is
Ordered-That Mr John Neal< no role > Mr William Jackson< no role > and Mr Richard
Berney
< no role > three of the Governor s of these Hospitals or any two of them be
Desired to Enquire whether the said John Ashwell< no role > be Sett up in his
said Trade and of his Hopefulness therein and to make their Report
to this Court
