Examination TextLydia Phillips aged about 53 years lodging in George Yard in Hedge Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Alexander Phillips (who died about nine years ago) to whom she was married at St Mary le Bone Church about 22 years ago, that he lived in and rented an house known by the sign of the Robin Hood (now the Fox) opposite York Buildings in the Strand in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid for the space of 13 years and nine months at the yearly rent of 24 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about two years before he died, that he never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes afterwards, nor hath she this Examinant nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband. Sworn the second Day of September 1756 before Benjamin Cox.
