Examination TextThe Examination of Sarah Squires singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this third Day of August in the year of our Lord 1756. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 25 years of age and never was married, that she was on the 12th Day of July instant delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a female bastard child (since christened Sarah) yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that George Gold a Labourer to Mr Martin at Martin in the County of Surry had carnal knowledge of her body the 19th Day of October on a bed in this Examinant's lodgings at Wandsworth in the County of Surry and one other time afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said George Gold did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said George Gold is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
