The Examination of Sarah Phipps< no role > Singlewoman Lodging
in the Parish of St. Clemt. Danes in the County of Middx
Taken the 10th. Day of July 1740 Who upon her Voluntary
Oath saith yt. on ye. 2d. Day of Febry. 1737 she was
Delivered of a Female Bastard Child in Bennetts Court
in the Parish of St. Clemt. Danes & wch has been Baptized
Mary< no role > And further saith yt. on ye. 4th. Day of April last
she was Delivered of another Female Bastard Child in
Vear Street in the sd. Parish of St. Clemt. Danes & wch has
been Baptized Jane< no role > & yt. One Jno. Williams Taylor
did begett the sd. Childn. on her Body, And this Examint.
further upon her Oath saith yt. some time before Febry.
1737 she Lodged in Bennetts Court aforesd. & he the sd.
Jno. Williams< no role > at the same time Lodging in the same
Court there became acquainted with her & yt. from
the time of their acquaintance they have Lodged
together & Passed for Man & Wife. And yt. the sd. Jno.
Williams
< no role > & no other Person is the true & reall
Father of the sd. two Childn. of wch she has been
Delivered of as aforesd. that he now absconds from
from her & she being Poor is not capable of
maintaing them
