The Examination of Rebecca Brown< no role > Singlewoman Lodging in the
Parish of St. Clement Danes in the County of Middx Taken the
20th. Day of Decr. 1739 Who upon her Voluntary Oath saith that
she is Pregnt. with Child or Childn. wch when Born will be a Bastard
or Bastards & likely to become Chargeable to the sd. Parish of St. Clemt.
Danes she being Poor & not able to maintaine the same when Born
And further upon her Oath saith yt. one Thos. Shewbrick< no role > Comander of
the Mary Ann bound from South Carolina for England did begett the sd.
Child or Childn. on her Body she this Examint. at such time being
a Passanger in the said Ship & there the sd. Thos. Shewbrick< no role > had
Carnall Knowledge of her Body Sevll. times at one of wch times he
got her with the Bastard Child or Childn. with which she is now
Pregnant and that he & no other Person is the true and reall
Father thereof
