Elizabeth Paterson< no role > of North Row in the Parish
of St. George Hanr. Square Spinster on her Oath
saith That on Sunday Night last about a Quarter
after Eleven o'Clock on hearing a Noise in
Oxford Street Dept. went there and was informed
that a Watchman had been Wounded, upon
which she went up to the Deced who stood
at a Butcher's Door the Corner of Queen
Street and some People around him, Says
that she said, Dick, is it you, but Deced
made no Answer Says that be bled very
much, and Reeled a little and dropped
down upon the foot Pavement, and leaved
his Head against Dept. Knee, Says that
the Deced's Great Coat was taken off but Dept.
did not see the Cutlas, That Mr. Spurrier
another Watchman Stood by the Deced, Says
that she saw a Gentleman put some Flour
upon the Wound in Deceds High, and that
the Deced was carried in a Coach to St. George's
Hospital .

Samuel Ball< no role > a Watchman of the Parish of
St. George Hanover Square on his Oath saith
That he was upon his Watch last Sunday Night
and when he was calling the hour of Eleven
he heard somebody call Watch Stop several
times in Oxford Street , upon which he went
there, and found a Man had got another
in Custody (whose name is Barnes as Dept.
was informed) Says that he and another
watchman took hold of Barnes, in order to
carry

Carry him to the Watch house, Says that
Barnes resisted and struggled saying that
he would not be carried to the Watch house
and struck this Dept. and the other Watchman
(whose name is James Buckland< no role > ) several
times, Says that a Watchman Rattled and
that several more Watchmen came, but
Dept. did not see the Deced there before he
was Wounded, Says that several People
got about Barnes, and Dept. reced several
Blows but he cannot say whether they were
from Barns or the People who endeavoured
to Rescue him, but he kept hold of Barnes
a long time Says that the Deced at last,
made his Escape through Duke Street in
the Parish of St. Mary le bone , that he
Kicked up Barnes's Heels at the Coroner of
Duke Street , but he got up and ran away
Says that he was then informed by Elizabeth
Paterson
< no role > that one of the WatchmenwasKilled,
upon which he went to the Deced who
was upon the Pavement Bleeding from a
wound in his Thigh, being Speechless,
Says that the Deced was carried to St. George's
Hospital in a Coach, Says that he does not
think that Barnes gave the Deced the
Wound in his Thigh, Says that about Eight
Months ago the Deced was beaten upon his
Walk, and that Deced since that time
has carried a Cutlas under his Coat when
he went to Watch, without a Sheath,
