"of Lancaster, and for preventing the fraudulent practices of Constables and
"others, concerned in the apprehending, maintaining conveying and shipping
"of Vagrants; IT IS ORDERED BY THIS COURT, That no sum of money, fee, per-
"quisite, or any other gratuity whatsoever shall, directly or indirectly be taken
"by, or allowed to any Clerk of any Justice of the Peace, or of any Magistrates
"acting within any inferior Jurisdictions, within the County of Lancaster, for
"taking any examination; or for making any Pass or duplicate thereof; or for
"any Certificate relating to the allowance to be made for the conveyance of
"any Vagrant; or for the order or warrant for the putting or taking any such
"Vagrant on board any ship or vessel; or for any other order, commitment;
"or proceeding relating to any such Vagrant. And that no allowance shall be
"made to the Clerk of the Peace for recording any Pass for the conveyance
"of any Vagrant, or any duplicate thereof. AND IT IS FURTHER ORDERED BY THIS
"COURT, That the Clerk of the Peace for the said County of Lancaster, shall, at
"the public expence of the said County, cause Blank-Passes for conveying of
"Vagrants, and Certificates for ascertaining in what manner they are to be con-
"veyed, and warrants for Masters of Ships to take them on board, to be
"printed and delivered to such of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the
"said County of Lancaster as shall desire the same. AND IT IS FURTHER ORDERED
"BY THIS COURT, That the several rates or sums of money hereinafter mentioned
"shall, and hereby are limited, appointed, and directed to be allowed by the
"several Justices of the Peace in the said County of Lancaster to the respective
"Officers, Constables, Serjeants at Mace, and Masters of the several Houses of
"Correction, and other persons within the said County of Lancaster, for passing,
"conveying, and maintaining Vagrants, pursuant to the Statute in such case
"made and provided, that is to say

"FOR the trouble and expence of the Constable, or
"Master of the House of Correction , or other person
"employed in conveying any one Vagrant on foot
"(where the Justice or Justices shall adjudge such Va-
"grant able to travel on foot) from the place where such
"Vagrant shall be apprehended or received, to the place
"appointed for the delivery of such Vagrant.}
Any sum not exceeding
three-pence for every mea-
sured mile.

"FOR the trouble and expence of the Constable, or
"Master of the House of Correction , or other person
"employed in conveying any two or more Vagrants on
"foot (where the Justice or Justices shall adjudge them
"able to travel on foot), and who shall be passed at
"one and the same time, and are to be delivered at one
"and the same place, and whether they shall be sent by
"one or more Passes, Orders, or Certificates from the
"place where they shall be apprehended or received to
"the place where they are to be delivered.}
Any sum of money not
exceeding three-pence for
every measured mile.
