Martha Hitchell< no role > maketh oath that she never was Married and that her
last legal Settlement is in the Parish of St. Giles in the Fields in the
County of Middlesex which said Settlement was obtained by her having
lived one year and upwards as a yearly hired Servant with Mr Boyce
in Princes Street in the said Parish That on the Eighth day of this instant
October she this Deponent in her Examination in Writing taken upon
oath before David Walker< no role > Esquire one of his Majestys Justices of the
Peace for the said County declared that she was then pregnant with
a Child or Children which was or were likely to be born a Bastard
or Bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish and that
William Gunter< no role > a Waiter at Hudsons Hotel under the Great
Piazza Covent Garden in the said County was the true and
only Father of the Child or Children where with she was so Pregnant
And she further saith upon her oath that the said William Gunter< no role >
was apprehended in consequence her having sworn him to be the
Father of such Child or Children as aforesaid, and was conveyed before
the said Justice on the Ninth day of October instant and then
entered into Recognizance with Sureties namely Thomas Hudson< no role >
of the Piazza Covent Garden aforesaid Coffee house keeper and
John Brewer< no role > of the Royal Hotel Long Acre in the said County
for the appearance of him the said William Gunter< no role > at the Present
Sessions holden for the said County to answer the Complaint of the
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of St Giles in
the Fields concerning the Premises and abide such Order as should
be made pursuant to the Statutes in such Cases made and
provided as she this Deponent hath been informed and verily
believes And she further saith upon her oath that she hath not
been delivered of the before mentioned Child or Children but is and
continues at this present time Pregnant therewith

Quarter Session of the Peace holden in and
for the County of Middlesex at the Session
House of the said County on Thursday
the 21st. day of October 1784}
