conscious of his own guilt And this Depont. Saith he never did
directly or indirectly Spirit away the said Sweatman or directly or
indirectly Cause him to be Secreted or Spirited away but believes that he
Actually went or was away and us Dept. has been Informed by many for
fear of being hang'd for Several forgerys which he is sd [..] to have Comitted
or for fear of being Transported for perjury And Deponent Saith he never
saw to his knowledge the sd. George Campbell< no role > the prosecutor or door he
know him was he to see him nor did this Depont. ever procure desire
or Speak to any person or persons directly or indirectly to influence
prevail on or offer any Reward Sum or Sums of Money Whatsoever
to sd. Campbell not to prosecute this Cause or for any other purpose
whatsoever but on the Contrary this Depont. hath always Sought and
desired by all Just and honest means to bring the same To tryal and
to have the sd. Campbell and his Witnesses Examined in open Court since
Depont. return'd as aforesd. and recovering his Health which had been
greatly Impar'd by his Sufferings And this Depont. Saith that he
never to his knowledge Employed Mr Hugh Fraser< no role > mentiond in
an Affidt. Sworn last Sessions in this Cause by sd. Rowe and
one William Berkley< no role > (another Clerk or Servant to the said Adam Gordon< no role >
as his Sollicitor otherwise in this Cause for that in a few days after
Deponents former Tryal in September aforesd. Depont. having
before very liberally awarded him and paid him more than he believes
was or could to Justly and in conocience Intitled unto this Depont.
received a Letter from the said Fraser wrote and Signed by
himself dated the Tenth day of September one Thousand Seven,
Hundred and fifty three a true Copy of which is hereunto Annexed
and Deponent Saith he looked upon and thought the sd. Frasers
demand by his said Letter so unjust and Inniquitous that he would
never after see him or have any thing to do with him nor has this
Deponent ever seen him since And this Depont. Saith that as
soon as he had recovered his health he ever about the Eleventh of
June last Caused Notices to be served on the prosecutors or left at
their Usual places of abode of Deponts Surrendering last July Sessions
then following to take his Tryal and that on or about the Seventeenth
