in way of trade, and particularly one of the present
Churchwardens whose house is thirty five pounds
p ann was rated last yeare but two shilling &
four pence p month and tis presumed is rated
no more this yeare And that several other Inhabitants
[..] who rent houses of upwards of ten pounds P Ann are not
rated [..] at all
though their rent makes each of them an Inhabitant, And that
several persons in the said parish who havewho haveplaces in
the several publick offices as the Custane house, Navy Office,
Victualling Office Etc and by reason of having a place and the noe
other dependance shall be rated as much as persons of much
greater rents persons of good trade & great dealings, and that for
the reasons aforesaid the peticoners thought themselves
aggreived by the said Rate, and appealed to this said Court against
the same, and prayed that the said Rate might be quashed,
and further prayed that as in several other parishes (vizt.) St.
Giles without Cripplegate , St. Giles in the Fields , and St. James
Clerkenwell a pound Rate hath prevailed, and the same
experienced to be just and Equitable, And that in July Quarter
Sessions One thousand Seven hundred and twenty nine this
Court confirmed & held good a Pound Rate made in the parish of
St. Botolph without Aldgate , which had been made by discretion
before time out of mind, And therefore hoped this Rate of St.
Mary White Chappel Shall be a pound Rate, And the Peticoners
further prayed that the Said Appeale might be saved to themas
of the said last Quarter Sessions, and that the same might be adjourned
over to the adjournment day of the then nextsessionsGeneral Sessions
(if any such adjornment should be appointed or otherwise to
the first day of the then next General Quarter Sessions, [..] And that then
and there the Said Churchwardens & Overseers of the poor of the said
parish might be Ordered to Attend the Court with the said several
Rates, and also to produce at the Same time the several
Scavengers Rates, and also or duplicates of the same, for this
present year which will make appeare the severall Rents and
what disproportions there is in their discretionary Rate of persons
of equal rent and the same Ability and that theymaymight hear &
abide the Judgment and determinacon of the Court touching the
said appeale, the matter of which appeale was [..]
appointed to be heard & determined, by the Court of
on the said twenty ninth day of June last appointed
