January 1799.

Room or that he must pay a Guinea a Week for
a Room no other of the Prisoners Confined on
Charges of Sedition and Treason ever had Beds or
paid any thing on that Account nor did they ever
make any Complaint to me about the Prison
I saw them frequently, almost every Day I locked
up seven of them Constantly every night I
know nothing of a Guinea a Week being demanded
of Roberts nor ever heard of such a Demand being
made the other Prisoners were asked the same
Question as Roberts whether they wished to
have a Bed but they did not chuse to have one
they had the Common Accomodation

The several Matters contained in my
Examination as entered in this Report are true
to the best of my knowledge recollection and
belief

Joseph Ballard< no role > }

I am one of the Servants in the House of
Correction Clerkenwell - I have been a Servant
in the Prison three Years and am one of the
Turnkeys , I am employed to procure the provisions
for the Prisoners in Custody for Sedition Etc. I buy
the Meat for them of Mr.. Skinner the Butcher
who supplies the Prison, it is the best Meat and
I pay 6½d. for the Mutton and 7d. for Beef, I buy the
Bread of Mr.. Marsh the Baker who serves the
Prison with Bread it is the best Wheaten Bread
here are the Butchers and Bakers Bills they have
frequently Complained to me of the Meat but I
declare without the least foundation, I always
