January 1799.

took care to have the best, some of them would be
dissatisfied were they to Dine at any Table, I
have returned Meat I think three times in the
Summer which I did not think perfectly sweat
I buy their Tea and Sugar at Mr.. Baileys the
Grocer and give 6sh. for the Bohea and 8sh. for the Green
Tea and I buy the best Salt Butter, I can get some
times I give 11½d. and sometimes 1sh. Per pound
they have their Tea in a Tin can never made use
of for a Watering pot or any other use but for
their Tea, it was thought the most Convenient
Vessel to keep it hot in they have all tin Pots which
hold a pint to put their Tea in they were bought
for the purpose of serving them they have three
Quartern Loaves and an half every Day
among 12. for their Bread and Butter at
Breakfast and Tea in the afternoon besides the
Prison allowance of a pound Loaf every Day for
each, they never made any Complaint to me as to
the quantity given them, I always take Care to
provide something more than a pound of Meat
each day Per head they have their Meat Roasted
one Day and boiled the other alternately and
always Vegetables< no role > , sometimes Potatoes, sometimes
Greens in the Summer, I have given them Green
Peas for which I paid 7s./6d. and 8s./0d. Per Sack they
have a Pint of Porter each Day Per head at their
Dinner I dont know that any of them have
ever been seriously ill, they are in two large
Rooms now seven in One Room and five in
another
