January 1799.

And the said Mr.. Walter being Examined
by the Court gave the following statement.

"Having received Information that a
"Person named Obaker Higgles< no role > had Died in the
"New House of Correction Clerkenwell I issued a Precept
"to Summon a Jury consisting of Six Persons
resident in the Parish of Clerkenwell and six
Persons as is usual on the like Cases I accordingly
attended to take such Inquisition and upon that
Inquiry found that the Deceased had been
Committed as a Vagrant and had been in the
Prison 6. Days that during the time he had
been in the Prison he had not applied for any
Medical advice for if he had he would
have received the same as the Apothecary attened
the House every Day that he had been served -
with Broth and particularly that the Day
previous to his Death he had been served with
Bread and two Quarts of Broth which he Eat
that when he was locked up that night he did
not make any Complaint and it also appeared
That he was amply provided with Bed Cloaths
as there were three Beds in the Room two of
which were unoccupied he had taken the
whole of the Cloaths all of which were found
upon him in the Morning - that upon such
Enquiry I particularly addressed those of the
Jury who were Prisoners desiring they would
say whether they had any knowledge of the
Deceased having been improperly treated to
which they all Answered they did not - That
