the Magistrates for effectuating the several purposes so convenient
and agreeable to the Neighbourhood the public in general travelling
that great high Road and the Navigators of the said Canal and to
pay such a proportion of the Expence of the Work as may be deemed
reasonable for them to pay for the Accommodation of the Canal
Navigation.

As therefore by saving the present intended repair of
the Foot Bridge and by being assisted in the Work in a liberal
manner (as it is presumed they will be) by the said Company this
great and beneficial improvement in the high Road in the most
dangerous part of it may probably be put in execution at an Expence
much below what would otherwise have been incurred by it.

Your Memorialists hope your Worships will take the
same into your consideration and Act therein as in your
wisdom you shall think right just and proper.

Mr. Clitherow then read a Letter sent to him by Mr
Hardwick respecting the rebuilding the Bridge and also an
Estimate made by Mr. Jessopp whereby it appeared that the Expence
of building the said Bridge and purchasing the Buildings
necessary to be removed would be £3830.

Resolved that Mr. Clitherow be requested to inform the
Canal Company that upon consideration of what may be
necessary to be done The Court do not think that they are
warranted to contribute more than £1000 on the part of the
County of Middlesex as all that is necessary to be done to make
the present Bridge convenient will not exceed that Sum and
that if the said Company do request it the Court will appoint a
Committee to meet the Committee of the said Canal Company.
