February 1779
By adjournment same day
This Count being informed that Mr. Richard Akerman< no role > This name instance is in set 4413.
Keeper of his Majestys Goal of Newgate attended in order to make some proposal
in respect to his Claims on this County for fees on the discharge of such persons
from his Custody as fall within the description of the Act of Parliament of
the 14th. Year of the Reign of his present Majesty entitled "An Act for the
"relief of Prisoners charged with felony or other Crimes who shall be acquitted
"or discharged by Proclamation respecting the payment of fees to Goalers
"and giving a Recompence for such fees out of the County Rates" Mr. Akerman
was called in accordingly and upon being asked what he had to propose
confessed that he was in doubt whether under the Order of the Court of
Aldermen of the 3d day of October 1732 touching the discharge of such
Middlesex
Prisoners as may be acquitted at the Old Bailey
without
the payment of any fees he had a right to the fee of Thirteen Shillings and
four pence given by the Act and was therefore willing to drop his intention
of applying to the Court of Kings Bench to compel the Treasurer
to comply
with his present demands if the Justices would order the Treasurer
to
pay him half the amount of his demand under the said Act to the
present time and would allow him Six Shillings and Eight Pence for
each person acquitted and discharged by proclamation or otherwise under
the said Act in future during the continuance of the said Act which propose
the Justices now here present thinking fair and reasonable His
Resolved that this Count do approve of the proposal of Mr
Akerman and do agree with him upon the said Terms
Resolved that the above Resolution do stand for
Confirmation on the County day of the next Session
Resolved that Mr. Akerman against the County day of
the next Session do prepare and then lay before the Court a proper
Instrument in Writing formed agreeably to the above proposal for his
due observance thereof
