At this Court a Report from the Committee of His Majesty's
Justices of the Peace for this County appointed appointed on the 22nd day
of April last for the immediate and effectual Repair of New Prison and
Clerkenwell Bridewell was made deliver'd and the same is as follows
(vizt).

Middlesex .

To his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County of
Middlesex in their General Session of the Peace to be holden for the
said County on Thursday the 17th day of February 1774 at Hicks Hall
Assembled.

The Report of the Committee of His Majesty's Justices of
the Peace for the said County appointed to carry into immediate execution
the Repair of New Prison and Clerkenwell Bridewell

The said Committee Report

That having taken into consideration the ways and means of raising
a sum of Money sufficient to defray the Expence of carrying into execution the
Plan of Repairs and alterations necessary to be done to Hicks Hall without
the Assistance of Parliament, referred to this Committee on the County day
of the last Session the Committee proceeded to read the Act of Parliament
of the 9th Year of the Present King and ordered the following extract of the same
to be laid before this County (Vizt) An Act to enable the Justices of the Peace
in their general Quarter Session of there respective Counties and divisions
to Repair the Shire Halls County Halls or other Buildings wherein the Assizes
or General Sessions are usually held Whereas Doubts have arrisen in several
Counties within the Kingdom of England and principality of Wales whether
there be any lawful Authority for the Repairing Shire Halls or other Buildings
usually made use of for holding the Assizes or Grand Sessions within such
Counties; For clearing such Doubts and for the making provision for repair-
ing the same whenever it shall be necessary May it Please your Majesty
that it may be enacted and be it enacted by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in the present
