Order of Reference
to settle the Treasurer's
Accounts Co

It is ordered By this Court that it be and it is hereby
recommended and referred to Bartholomew Hammond< no role > , John Brettell< no role >
James Hubbald< no role > Benjamin Cowley< no role > John Spencer< no role > Colepeper, John
Cox Esqrs . and such other of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace
for this County as will please to be present or any two of them
as a Committee to meet together at Hick's Hall aforesaid on
Friday the 16th. day of June at 10 of the Clock in the forenoon
or some other convenient time and place to inspect and audit the
Account of Mr. James Jefferson< no role > touching the Money by him
received as Treasurer of this County and of his Disburesemts.
out of the same And also to inspect his accounts of what sum
and Sums of Money he hath reced and of whom for the Rents of
the Estate of this County and how the same or any part there of
hath been applied and disposed of and to report a state of the said
respective accounts to the Court at the next General Quarter
Session of the peace for the said County on the County day of the
same Session

The Representation of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace for the County of Middlesex in their
General Quarter Session assembled.

Sheweth

That the Justices named in the Commission of the Peace
for the said County which passed the Great Seal in the year 1761
having by deaths and otherwise been considerably reduced in
their number it became necessary to appoint others in their
room and Stead and in order that the Magistracy might be
rendered as respectable as possible great care was taken to
recommend such Persons only as from their circumstances
Characters and qualifications seem'd likely to answer the End
of their appointment and add weight to authority.
