Order and Appointment
of John Stoddart< no role > to be
Governour of the House of
Correction at Clerkenwell
the Room of Thomas
Hopkins deceased}

His Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex Assembled
at this present General Session of the Peace holden for the same County do Elect
nominate and appoint John stoddart< no role > of the Parish of St. Martins in the fields .
Gentleman to be Governor and Keeper of the House of Correction at Clerkenwell in the
said County in the place and stead of Thomas Hopkins< no role > deced late Governor and
Keeper of the said House of Correction To have hold execute and enjoy the said
Office or Employment of Governor or Keeper of the said House of Correction together
with all Fees perquisites allowances payments profits comodities & Emoluments,
to the said Office or Employment belonging or Appertaining during the pleasure
of the Justices of the Peace for the said County in their General Sessions of the Peace
for the same County assembled or to be Assembled or the Major part of them only.
and no longer upon Condition that he the said John Stoddart< no role > (during the time he
shall continue Governor and Keeper of the said House of Correction) keep his constant
residence there and well demean himself in the said Office or Employment and
Execute the same in his own Person and not by Deputy And also that he the
said John Stoddart< no role > his Executors or Administrators do and shall well and
truly pay or cause to be paid unto the Sheriff of the said County for the time being
or his order for the use of his now Majesty King George the third his Heirs and,
Successors all such Sum and Sums of money as have been or shall be imposer
and set for any fire or Fines by any of the Justices of the Peace for the said County
Assembled at any of there General or General Quarter Sessions of the Peace
holden or to be holden within the said County on any Prisoner or Prisoners
committed or to be committed to the Custody of the said John Stoddart< no role > Keeper
or Governor of the said House of Correction for any Offence or Offences by them
committed and which shall or without his or their wilfull default may at
any time or times be received by him or his Servant or Servants during such
time as the said John Stoddart< no role > shall continue Governor or Keeper of the
said House of Correction And also that he the said John Stoddart< no role > his Exerr
or Administrators do and shall likewise well and truly Accompt and pay.
