Afterwards a Letter from his Grace the Duke of Newcastle
was read which said Letter was directed To The Worshipful
the Justices of the Peace
for the County of Middlesex
at Hicks's Hall
And is as follows. (Vizt.)
Claremont Septr. 8th. 1755
Gentlemen,
Being informed, That the Widow Northcote is
married; & that by her Marriage, The Place of
Housekeeper of Hicks's Hall
, & Cryer of the Court,
is become Vacant, I desire the Favour of You, to appoint
in Her Place, Mr. John White< no role >
, whose Fidelity is well
known to me, I am persuaded, That the office will
be executed to Your Satisfaction; & I shall esteem
myself much obliged to those who will have a regard
to my Recommendation upon this Occasion.
I am, Gentlemen, with the greatest Truth
& Regard,

And afterwards the sd. Mrs. Northcote was called into Court
and was asked whether she was married which She Acknowledge
Acknowledged.
And after a Debate It appearing to this Court that
the place of Cryer and Housekeeper of this Court is held
only during pleasure, The Question being put whether
it is the opinion of this Court that the place of Cryer
and Housekeeper is Vacant.
It was resolved in the Affirmative.
