Method of giving the Prisoners 1d P Day wth a propr Care
they do not lay it out in Gin but in necessary Food your
Committee apprehend wou'd bettr answer the End proposed
than granting to the Keepr a Yearly Salary; as the pressing
Wants & great Necessities of the Prisoners are the chief &
only reason of your taking this Mattr undr your Considera-
tion not but that your Keepr will have some Relief & Bene-
-fit by it as the said Prisoners will all have then sufficient
to keep them from starving he will be free from their pres-
-sing Importunities & Intreaties & need not supply them wth
Necessaries wch no Man who had the least Pity & Compassion
& was obliged by his Office to be often wth them cou'd before
refrain from tho it was all out of his own Pocket & which
we are informed Mr Wallbank the present Keepr has often
done Shou'd this Court be of Opinion wth yr Comittee to allow
1d P Day wch. Allowance your Comittee apprehend this Court is
warranted to make by a Clause in the 13th of his present Ma-
-jesty whereby the Justices at their respective general or quar
-ter Sessions may from Time to Time make such Orders &
Regulations as they shall think fit for the bettr governing &
regulating of the sd Houses of Correction & for employing relie-
-ving & punishing the Persons therein.

Your Comittee wou'd then further propose yt the sd. Keepr do eve-
-ry Saturday in the Sessions as soon as the Court is Opened in
order to call over the Prisoners & discharge the goal deliver in
a List to the Court of the Numbr of Prisoners he has had in his Custo-
-dy from the Saturday of the last Sessions to the Saturday he de-
-livers in the sd. List with an Account of the Days each Prisonr
was confined & how many 1d each Prisoner received yt so the
Court may examine the list & make such Order on their Trea-
-surer for Paymt of so much as the Court shall apprehend the
sd. Officer is intituled too. And your Comittee have the rather fix-
-ed on the Saturday Morning at the opening of the Court be-
-cause as the Prisoners are bro't up every Saturday Morning the
Court may have an Opportunity to examine the Prisoners as to the
Payment
