Order for receiving
proposalls & contracting
with Workmen touching
the building of Brentford
Bridge Etc.}

Whereas Sr. Joseph Ayloffe< no role > Houlding Bart< no role > . Sr . Edward Hill< no role > Knt.
Nathaniel Blackerby< no role > John Milner< no role > & George Feroke< no role > Esquires being a
Quorum of the Committee of Justices of the peace of this County
appointed by an Order of the Seventeenth day of April last
to employ an Engineer or Skilfull persons to lay before the said
Committee Such method plans and proposalls as might be
most proper for rebuilding Brentford Bridge with Stone, and to
take an account or estimate of the charge thereof, have by
their Report in writing dated the Sixteenth day of May instant
now delivered into this Court certifyed That they did employ Mr.
Charles Labelye< no role > a Skilfull Engineer (and who is Engineer to the
Westminster Bridge Commissrs) Who having carefully viewed
the Situation of the present Bridge at Brentford hath prepared
& laid before the said Committee a Plan or Design for rebuilding
the Said Bridge Partly of Brick and Partly of Stone and an
explanation thereof, as also an estimate of the expence of building the Palne which plan explanation & estimate were annexed to the
said Report, And that it appearing to the said Committee that
the said estimate was made upon a Supposition that the said
Bridge Should be only twenty two feet wide in the Clear the
said Committee were of opinion that the Bridge Should be
twenty five feet wide in the clear for the benefit of Foot
Passengers as well as carriages & Horsemen, the doing of
which will in the opinion of Mr. Labelye increase the expence
of building the said Bridge about one hundred pounds over &
above the said estimate annexed to the same Report, which the
said Committee conceive will be a proper Bridge, and approve
of the Said plan and Design,and are of opinion that the Bridge
may be built according to the Said Design for the Sum of one
thousand two hundred pounds, and that an Advertizement
Should be published in one or more of the News Papers to give
Publick notice of a day time & place for the said Committee to
meet to receive proposalls from the Several Workmen who
will undertake to build the said Bridge according to the said
Plan,which with the explanation thereof ought to do be
deposited with the Clerk of the peace or some other proper person
for the inspection of Such Workmen as may be willing to
Contract for the building thereof, And that it Should also be
mentioned in the said Advertizement that the said Committee
will give full Satisfaction to any person or persons who shall
undertake to build the said Bridge that punctual payment
shall be made as the work is carried on, And that the Committee
cannot make any Report touching the other matters mentioned
in the said Order because Sr. Thomas Reynell< no role > Bart. James
Clitherow & Robert Hinde< no role > Esquires did [..] not attend the Said
Committee altho' Sumond to make appear what Orders &
