good Sound Oak of the goodness & Scantlings by him
Contracted for, but hath in several points Exceeded his
Scantlings contracted for and Added some repairs
which were not Included in his contract and put a new
Oak Trussle head to the West bay of the said Bridge
more than he contracted for And that during the time
the said Bridge was repairing for about five Weeks
there was no possibility of passing over the same with
Horses Carts or Carriages, and the Ford so deep that
the said Committee were forced to Order a Bridge or
Causey over the said Ford made with Timber, & posted
and railed 150 feet on each side and 100 feet of
Planking on each side to Support the Bavins &
Gravel laid to carry over the heavy Carriages for,
the Timber Work & Workmanship whereof they
Agreed with the said Wm. Butler< no role > at £10. which
was cheaper by several pounds than any other person
would Undertake it, And that a Bill of John Cheney< no role >
for the Bavins, gravel, labour in getting and
Spreadingitt, and for the Carriage, and Order to
make the said Bridge or causey over the Ford the
Weather proving very wet and the Tides high, and the
ways at both ends of the bridge wanting very much to
be repaired to make the same passable, and for
Labourers , and for five Weeks Attendance to fill up the
holes & foundrous places the said Comittee having
Agreed with him to find such Materialls & Carriages & to
Employ such Labourers as should be necessary Amounts
to the summ of £18:11s:7d which the said Comittee Adjudge to be very
reasonable And For as much as the said William Butler< no role >
& the said John Cheney< no role > have effectually performed their,
Covenants & Agreements the said Committee therefore
desire that this Court will please to Order the Moneys due
to them to be forthwith paid to them that the sd. Comittee
may be discharged from the Covenants & Agreements by them,
entred into wth. them for the paymt. thereof & that their
reputations wth. are also at Stake for the paymt. thereof may not
be Stained by any delay As by the said report relation being
there unto had may morefully appear, This Court upon consideracon
had of the sd. Report doth Ratify & confirm the same And doth Order that
the respective Sums of Money abovemenconed in the sd. Report to be End
to the sd. Wm. Butler< no role > & John Cheney< no role > be paid to them respectively out
of the Moneys raised or to be raised by Virtue of the first
bridge rate which shall be or Stand Confirmed by the Court
