Order touching the making
a Warrant of distress for
levying Vagrant money
assessed within the Tower
Liberty}

Whereas a Rate was made at the General Quarter
Sessions of the peace holden for this County in the Month
of July one thousand seven hundred & thirty one for
raiseing of moneys to defray the expences of passing
& releiving of Vagrants, In which Rate the four places
hereafter mentioned were assessed as part of the Tower
Division in this County (to witt)

The Liberty of the Tower within£0..2s..10d
the Liberty of the Tower without£1..1s..4d
the Liberty of the Old Artillery Ground £2.. 13s..11d
the parish of Trinity Minories £1..14s..0d

amounting together to five pounds twelve Shillings and
one penny as their Quota or proportion of one hundred
fifty five pounds two Shillings and two pence assessed by
the said Rate upon the said Tower Division for the
purpose aforesaid which sums soe assessed the Inhabitants
of the said four places refuse to pay, upon pretence that
these places are part of the Tower Royalty or Tower Liberty
And that the Inhabitants thereof are exempted & not by
Law Subject to the payment thereof It is Ordered by this
Court that Nicholas Jeffreys< no role > Esqr . John Milner< no role > Esqr . James
Clitherow Esqr . and Thomas Burdns< no role > Esqr . four of his Maties
Justices of the peace of this County or any one of them
be and they are hereby desired to make & sign a warrant
of distress to levy the moneys assessed as aforesaid or such
Sum & sums of money as shall be assessed upon the
said four places or any of them by any subsequent
Rate to be made for raiseing of moneys to defray the
expences of passing and releiving of Vagrants upon the
goods of some proper person within the said four places
or one of them in order to bring the mattter in question
to a speedy determination, And It is further Ordered by
this Court that the said Justices of the peace who shall
sign such warrant of distress and every of them shall
be indempnifyed by the general Quarter or general
