The Examination of James Long< no role >
of the Bank Gate Way Royal
Exchange taken upon Oath the
13th. Day of March 1786

Saith that he hath often seen the Prisoner Green
about the Royal Exchange and the Bank of England
in Company with the Prisoner Howlett and others whose
Names are unknown to this Examinant, and that he
this Examinant has frequently taken Men from the
said Green. That about Two or three Days after the last
Dividend became due he this Examinant saw the said
Green going down Saint Bartholomew Lane , and there
accosted a Gentleman which induced he this Examinant
to ask the said Gentleman if He knew the said Green, who
answered in the Negative. That the said Green (Exami-
-nant believes) had observed this Examinant noticing
the improper Conduct of him the said Green before, the said
Green made a Bow to the said Gentleman and went
away. The same Day Examinant, met the said Green
and a Gentleman nearly opposite the India House , and
Examinant crossed the Way and the said last mentioned
Gentleman if he knew the said Green, who replied no.
That the said Green then sayd God Damn you a Rascal
(meaning this Examinant) have you mind to pick the
Gentleman 's Pocket, and that He this Examinant answered
No. Examinant asked the said Green if he recollected that
he the said Green was Sir Edmund Affleck< no role > about
an Hour
