The Examination of Thomas Howlett Apprehended by
Francis Bailey< no role > a Constable of this City as a Rogue and
Vagabond taken upon Oath this 11th. March 1786

Saith he was born in the City of Norwich and served an apprenticeship to
Mr Decker a Cabinetmaker there, That he served five years only and bought
out the Remainder of his time for eleven or twelve Guineas and came
to London and worked for one Mr. Lemain Kings Card Table Matter who
took the Examinant without a recommendation from any one, That he
stayed with Lemain about three quarters of a Year and then returned
to Norwich to his Father and stayed between two and three Years during
which time he worked for himself as Master and bearded with his
Father and paid nothing for his beard. That he does not recollect where
he went to next. Has been out of his Apprenticeship nine or ten
Years of which time he spent between two and three years of Yarmouth
and lived there at his Brother in Laws. Harry Houghton< no role > the Sign of
the Slip near the Southgate , and did nothing, when he went there
he might had three or four Guineas, or 8 or 10 Guineas as far as
he knows, but does not know exactly the Sun, That he did some
Jobs for his Brother during his Stay at Yarmouth as a Gentleman
and not for any other, That his brother paid him nothing, That
his brother is a Shipbuilder by Trade and lives on The Keys.
That Examinant when he had nothing to do walked about for
pleasure, can't exactly tell his Companions but some times with
his Brother or Sister, That he knows an hundred Gentlemen at
yarmouth , knows Mr. Hollmark a Liquor Merchant, That he
was acquainted with no female there but his Sister, That abt.
three Years ago he came to London to follow his business and took
the London Hotel in Rosemary Branch Alley Rosemary Lane ; lived
