The Information of Mary Ann Garrett< no role > of Shovel
Alley Saint Catharines in the County of Middlesex
Spinster taken before me this 23rd. day of March
1785

Who being on Oath says that she was intimately acquainted and connected
with Edward Payne< no role > lately Executed for robbing the Ship Elbe of Dollars
and Watches That on the Thursday following the said Robbery, said
Payne gave this Informant in Glass-house Yard in the Minories , four
Guineas, 3 Ten pound Bank Notes and one Twenty Pound Bank Note,
telling this Informant to take care of said Notes - That on the following
Night said Payne gave Informant 40 Guineas, Six Ten Pound Bank
Notes and one Twenty pound Bank Note, telling this Informant
to take great care of the some and not to let John Barlow< no role >
(now present) know any thing about it - That on the Sunday
following this Informant being at said Barlow's house in Half Moon
Alley to Dinner, said Barlow's Sister came in and said that
"Payne was taken", and shortly after his Mother came in & Sold
Informant that "if she had any property about her, she would be
transported for life or hung" - That said Barlow's Mother also pressed
her to make away with any Property she might have to prevent
its being found on her. That Informant went home and took all
the Notes and Money before mentioned out of the Box and went with
it to said Barlows, to whom she gave 44 Guineas to take care
of which he put into a Drawer saying at the same time that no
person could Swear to Guinant" - That Informant then asked said
Barlow what she should do with the Bank Notes he replied" put
them into the Tea-kettle Informant observed that the Damp of the
Tea kettle would spoil them - Barlow then observed to Informant
