The King agt. John Cox< no role > upon the Prose
cution of Jonathan Chubb< no role > for Perjury

John Cox< no role > late of Bridgewater in the County of Somersell Merchant and
Richard Keyle< no role > of Hogsdon in the County of Middlesex Watermaker
one of the Assignces of the said John Cox< no role > under the late Insolvent act severally
make Oath and say and first the said John Cox< no role > for himself saith that having
a good opinion of the integrity and fear dealings of Jonathan Chubb of
Bridgewater aforesaid Merchant the above named Prosecutor he this
Deponent on or about the Month of January one thousand seven hundred and
Sixty eight became half part Concerned with him in the purchase of a Cast
away ship then on Barrow point in the County of Somerset and upon that
occasion this Deponent the said John Cox< no role > gave his Bond to the said Jonathan Charles< no role >
for three hundred and twenty five pounds payable in three Months for the Consider
ration or purchase of said Cornern And Deponent saith that when said Bond
became due and payable and when the said Chubb had proposeed himself of great part of
and upon that account the said Chubb was indebted to this Deponent the said John Cox< no role > the Carge saved out of the said Cast away Ship to Considerable amount more
than suffient to pay said Bond given for the purchase thereof the said Chubb
caused Deponent to be arrested upon the said Bond and upon that action
proceeded to sign Judgement and take out execution thereon against Deponent
Effects and upon that actions this Deponent was rendred in discharge of his
Bail to the Custody of the Warden of the Fleet and this Deponent saith that
after such Sunender the said Jonathan Chubb caused Execution to issue
and devied this Deponent John Cox< no role > 's one half part of the said Ship then in
the River Thames And this Deponent saith that thereby and by virtue of
a Judgement Confessed by the said Jonathan Chubb to his son John Chubb< no role >
a young Man then in his Fathers Counting house as Clerk and the same
being entred up and Execution issued thereon the whole of the said
ship was sold under such Executions by the then Sheriff of the County of
Surry And this Deponent Saith that the said Ship under such executions as
aforesaid as well this Deponent John Cox< no role > 's one half as the said Jonathan Chubb< no role >
