The Information of Leonard Jacob Van Hornpeckh< no role >
taken before me this 20th day of April 1772

Who being upon Oath says that he is about thirty Eight years of Age that in
or about the year One thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty two he came to England
that about that time he lived with Mr. Willis at his Academy in Essex as a French
Master where he continued about half a Year and then went to serve Mr. Hutton
at Deptford as a Latin & French Master where he continued about half Year that
then for some time he taught privately and after that he went to live with Mr.
Shields at his Academy at Islington that whilst he continued with Mr. Shields he
lodged with one Mrs. Moore where he became acquainted with one Thomas Wood< no role >
says that Mr. John Vestenberg< no role > was at that time acquainted with the said
Thomas Wood< no role > and visited him at Mrs. Morris where at this Informant Lodged says that he went
out of England in the year One thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty five and
as he believes on or about the fifth or Sixth of the Month of November Says that
about three Weeks or a Month before he left England the said Thomas Wood< no role >
and the said John Vestenburg< no role > jointly requested this Informant to go to the
Bank and fetch some Cheques for Sir Joshua Van Neck< no role > 's house he understanding
that the said John Vestenberg< no role > was at that time a Clerk in Sir Joshua Van Neck< no role > 's
Compting house That one of them and as he verily beleives the said John
Vestenburg gave this Informant a Book which he did not open but is very sure
that the said Wood and the said Vestenburg were both present when he received
the said Book but says that on the said Book was wrote the word "Bank" of
as he believes the word "Book" also says that he went to the Bank for the said
Cheques and carryed the said Book with him accompanied by one of the said
Persons to shew him the way he not knowing at that time what Cheques were
says he received a Number of Cheques from one of the Clerks in the Bank &
to the best of his knowledge delivered the said Cheques to the said Thomas Woods< no role >
says that a few days afterwards the said Thomas Wood< no role > in the presence of
the said John Vestenburg< no role > delivered to this Informant a Draft upon the Cashiers
of the Bank of England for Four Thousand Five Hundred Pounds purporting
to be the Draft of Joshua Van Neck< no role > and Co. & desired this Informant to go to the
Bank and receive Bank Notes for the said Draft that the said Thomas Wood< no role >
went with this Informant to the Door of the Bank and shewed him where to
present the said Draft and gave him a Paper whereon was with an Account of
what Bank Notes this Informant should receive for the said Draft says he received
Bank Notes to the value of the said Draft that he carried them to a Tavern on
Moorfields where he found Mr. Wood and Mr. Vestenburg aforesaid together that
he delivered the said Bank Notes up to them being both present says that
few days afterwards the said Thomas Wood< no role > and the said John Vestenburg< no role >
desired this Informant to go yo to the Bank was receive money for the said Bank
Note says he objected to that as not being a proper person to receive so much money
says they told him there was no person so early at Sir Joshua Van Neck< no role > 's
to do it says that he received a Number of Bank Notes from the said Thomas
