The Exaiacon of John Eston< no role > a prur in her Majties: Goal
of Newgate for Debt taken before Us her Majties. Justices
of the peace for the County of Middx upon oath.

This Exaiate saith That hee hath sent severall Seltors to Mr. Fell
complaining of severall abuses comitted agt: him & other prurs by
Richard Edwards< no role > Thomas Marsh< no role > , Richard Hathesell< no role > & Thomas
Gardner
< no role > who are comonly called partners & also agt: one John
Littlehale
< no role > for extorting money from prurs at their first coming in
but could never obtaining any Redress.

That the sd: ptners do receive the Bread & meat sent by the Sheriffs of
London & others it Charity for Releif of poor prurs for Debt, and
comonly take halfe, & sometimes more of the same & give some
the Felons & some they send out at their own discrecon to their
wives or whores: by which undue practices the poor prurs are
kept in a starveing Condicon.

That it is a comon practice for William Robinson< no role > one of the Turnkeys
of the sd Goal to let in Comon lewd women into the sd: Goal to the
Felons & other prurs there, & suffer them to ly there whole Nights,
and that he takes twelve pence a peice of the women holets in
as aforesaid, by which meanes hee sometimes gots Thirty or Forty
shillings a week as he supposes & believes.

That severall Theives who have formerly been prurs in the sd: Goal are
permitted to come in as often as they please, & to ly there severall
nights & that they being in severall parcells of goods supposed to be
stollen, which are comonly laid up in Room called the Change & that
some of the sd: Theives when they have stollen a good Booty, will spend
their twenty shillings or up wards at a time.

That it is a comon practice of the sd. Wm: Robinson< no role > to be absent from the
door to which he is Turnkey . three or four houres together soe that the
Freinds of the prurs who come to see them canot either get out nor could
in, & at other times the sd Robinson when prsent will not open the door
at all the requested soe to doe.

That It is also a comon practice when any friends of the Debtors come to
the Grate to speake with them That the Felons in the sight of the
partners pick their pocketts & that when this Exaiate hath rebuked
the partners for suffering such abuses they have asked him
what it was to him & there at ned to knock him down & that two
of the partners are Felons.
