to Messrs. Langdales of Holborn
Distillers
taken on Oath before me this
6th. day of June 1789.
Who being on Oath says that this Afternoon about
two oClock as he was going with different Casks of Spirits in
his Masters Cart drawn by two Horses from Holborn to Islington
the said Cart Containing Six Casks of Spirits and Compounds
the said Cart [..] went thro' Goswell Street
Turnpike at
which Gate this Informant paid the Toll for the said Horses
and Cart to the Collector thereof whose Name he has since
been informed is Thomas Coax< no role >
or Couch the said Horses
and Cart going thro' without stopping That when said
Horses and Cart had get at about the distance of Five Yards
from said Turnpike this Informant then being by the side
of his horses he turned his head about and saw said Coax
otherwise Couch at the tail of his Cart take out a five
Gallon Cask of Rum
and Carry the same into the
Turnpike house That he desired a person coming by to
Stop his Horses and immediately ran back to said Turnpike
house where he saw said five Gallon Cask of Rum
Standing upon a Chair and which he saw said Coax put
there that in said Turnpike house there were four other Men
besides said Coax and this Informant told them they were
Damned Scoundrells and that Mr. Langdale< no role >
his Master would
make them pay for what they had done when said Coax
otherwise Couch replied Mr Langdale might Kiss his
