Joseph Roe< no role > of Enfield Highway Labourer being Sworn
saith That on Tuesday the 5t. instant about the hour at
Seven in the Evening the deceased Edwin Swain
was standing at the Door at the Black Horse Enfield
Highway when the Lincoln Coach drove up that
the Passengers in the Coach began to talk about the
Fight and offered to lay Betts that the deced offered
Ward who was on the Coach to lay him 1 Gua to 35
Wardoffasked him what he knew about fighting
he Answered I am Man enough for you and will
fight you for a Guinea ward then got off the Box and
came up to him seemingly in good humour and
doubled his first and said I could have you here and
have you there that Swain then refused to Fight
but some Wards arising Ward Struck a Battle ensued
andWardSwain gave out and said he would fight him
and time for 20t that he then relived near the
House and Ward followed him there and Struck
him twice he not then being on his Defence that
he fell in Consequence of steel Blows and Died
that the space between his giving out and
receiving the last Blow Deponent thinks was
about Two Minutes
