on Oath the sixth day of May 1789 before
me one of his Majesty's Justices of the
Peace
for the County of Middlesex
Who Saith That last night about half an Hour
after seven O Clock he was at the Black horse
Alehouse at Enfield Highway
in the County of
Middlesex
And there saw William Ward< no role >
now
under Examination and some others come on
the outside of the Lincoln stage and the said
William Ward< no role >
and others got down from the
Stage, some of them called out and asked
What was the best odds for tomorrow and
Edwin Swaine< no role >
made Answer and Said that he
would take Five and thirty Shillings to a
Guinea, upon which the said William Ward< no role >
ran his first in his face and said he would fight
him for a Guinea or a Bowl of Pumb and
many words passed between them and they began
to fight and both trumbled down and got up
again, and Edwin Swam< no role >
said he would fight no
more, And then William Ward< no role >
struck the
said Edwin Swain< no role >
again and he fell and never
got up again but was dead which he supposes
by the blows.
