aforesaid taken before me this 16th.
day of October 1788
Who being upon Oath Severally say And first
the said Alexander Bryson< no role >
for himself says
that this Evening about eight o'Clock when Persons
were going up the two Shilling Gallery Stairs of
Covent Garden
Theatre in order to go in at half
Price he saw a person now present who calls
himself James Hubbard< no role >
go up said Stairs in
company with one George Wakeman< no role >
when this
Informant from his suspicions of them called
out to the People going up to take care of their
Pockets That in a few Minutes he heard a
Gentleman
say upon the Stairs that his Pocket
was Picked at which instant said Wakeman came
rushing down Stairs when this Informant laid
hold of him and secured him That a Cround then
gathered round among which was said James
Hubbard< no role >
who thrust himself between this
Informant and said Wakeman and said "Daina
"You You have no business with him" at
which instant said Wakeman ran away
after which this Informant secured said Hubbard
and further says that previous to said Hubbards
and Wakemans going up Stairs together he had
seen them in Company for about an Hour in
the Passage
and at other parts of the Theatre
And the said Thomas Pearce< no role >
for himself
saith that after said Wakeman had been
rescued from said Bryson he was again
secured by a Continel and this Informant when
