The King against William Edwards< no role >
on the Prosecution of Elizabeth Grix
for a Rape

Robert Macklin< no role > of Paradice Street High Street Saint
Mary le Bone in the County of Middlesex Yeoman Maketh
Oath and Saith that he this Deponent was Bound
in Recognizance in the above Prosecution in May
Session last And this Deponent Saith that during the
Time of the Bill of Indictment against the above
William Edwards< no role > being before the Grand Tiny of the
County of Middlesex he this Deponent Attended when
this Deponent was Informed by one Thomas Brown< no role >
in whose Service the said Elizabeth Grix then was, that
he this Deponent might go home about his usual
Buisness for the Bill of Indictment against the
said William Edwards< no role > was not a True Bill returned
by the Grand Tiny And this Deponent further Saith
that Confiding in the said Thomas Brown< no role > he this
Deponent did not Attend the said Trial According to the
form of the recognizance entered into by this Deponent
And this Deponent further Saith that it was not by
any wilfull neglect of this Deponent that prevented
this Deponent from Attending this Honorable Court
on the above Prosecution, But merely on the positive
Assurance of the said Thomas Brown< no role > that this
Deponents Attendance was not necessary which
this Deponent verily Believed to be true and being
totally Ignorant of the Proceedings of this Honorable
Court
