Benjamin Powell< no role > of the parish of Saint Giles in the
fieldg in the County of Middlesex Baker Maketh Oath and
saith That on the Twelfth day of March now last past
this Deponent was attending at the Public Office in Hyde
Street Bloomsbury upon parish business and heard a Charge
made against the prisoners before the then sitting Justice
on suspicion of Stealing a Watch and same But this
Deponent had nothing to do with the Matter Neither was
he Examined thereon And this Deponent further Saith
That he was very much Alarmed upon the Receipt of the
Letter from Thomas Shelton< no role > Esquire hereunto Annexed
and made Enquiry at the Justices Office when he found
that his Name was Entered in the Justices Recognizance
Book with the Names of the Constable of the Night and
the Watchman and where it appeared That this Deponent
was bound over to give Evidence against the Prisoners
at the then next April Sessions And this Deponent
further Saith That his Name must have been Entered
in the Justices Recognizance Book by Mistake And
that it this Deponent had had any Notice That he
was bound over to give Evidence against the prisoners
on the said Charge he would have readily Attended
this Honorable Court pursuant to such Recognizance
And this Deponent upon his Oath further Saith
That he did not know That he was so bound over to
give Evidence as aforesaid untill the Receipt of the Letter
