Public Office Saint Martin Street
August 16th 1788

The Informations of Mary Brown< no role > John Brown< no role > John Tofild< no role >
and Joseph Thompson< no role > taken before Edward Read< no role > Esquire one
of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for the said County

First Mary Brown< no role > being duly sworn for herself saith that on Sunday
Evening last between seven and Eight o clock as she was going home
to her Lodging in High Street Kensington she was Accosted by a Soldier
(now present who calls himself Isaac Millard< no role > ) near the bell and horns
Brompton who prevailed on her to go into the bill and Horns to drink
some Ale and this Informant further saith that when she came out of
the said bell and horns ( having been there but a short time) he insisted
when seeing her home this Informant desired he would not that she
could find her way home herself and did not want his Company
that he followed her untill she got into gore Lane he than began to
pull her about and be have very rude and Indecent that soon after
she met four other men not Yet taken whom the said Millard seemed
to be acquainted with who likewise began to be have Indecent and
Insisted upon Lying with her that she began to be very much terrefied and
was Apprehensive they would do her some Mischief that the said Millard
threw her on the Ground and told her that he would lay with her and
if she would consent to let him he would prevent the other four that
he then forced his hand up her Petticoats that she Struggled and called
out as Land as she was able and desired the four Men to Assist her which
they refused to Do and Laughed at her that the said Millard finding he
could not get the better of her swore a Great Oath and said he would have
her hat and Cap (and that round the Cap was a purple ribband) she said
she cared not what he took he should have her Life sooner than he should
lay with her that one of the other four men said Blast the whose let her go
home without Shoes and Immediately took one shoe and two buckles
of her feet and a Linen Handkerchief a small prayer book a knife and
a snuff out of her Pocket that one of the other four Men) who appeared to be
a soldier held her down on the Ground by the shoulders while the others robb'd her
that she then went home
