Middlesex to wit


The Information of Francis Barrell< no role > of
Pulteney Street Porter< no role > taken before me this
first day of April 1788.

Who being upon Oath says that he lived next Door
to the House of David otherwise Daniel Clarey in Pulteney< no role >
Street aforesaid and that being in Bed about three o Clock on
Monday Morning the 24 of March last he was awakened by
a knocking at the Street Door of his House and cry of Fire
That he immediatly got out of Bed and went into the Street
to see where the Fire was and heard some Person in said
Clareys House ask for a Pail of WaterThat Informant
instantly returned to his own House & having got a Pail of
Water took it into Clareys house where he this Informant
found Mr. Gumbart in the Parlour with a Candle in her hand
looking at the Grate not in the least flurried but apparently quite
unconcemed,This Informant then enquired of said Gumbart
where the Fire was, to which she answered, "she did not Know"
That this Informant was surprized at Mr. Grumbart answer
that he went back into the Street & having heard some person
call for an Iron Crow to break open the Shop window, he
went to his own House and got one with which He broke
