The several Informations of Mary
Bickerstaff
< no role > Thomas Groves< no role > and William Twtton< no role >
Taken the 6th. day of January 1787 .

Who upon their Oaths say and first the said Mary
Bickerstaff
< no role > for herself saith That about the hour
of 8. oClock last night as she was going along Holborn
in her way home to Union Street near Oxford Street
her Son Edward an Infant Aged about 15 years
being about a Yard distance before her who had an Old
Red Handkerchief with about 6 pounds Weight in it
hanging across his left Shoulder a Man who says his
Name is John Anderson< no role > and who is now in Custody
passed her and went to her son and took the Handkerchief
and Butter and Ran away with it down Newton
Street That her said son and herself Called out
Stop Thief and the said John Anderson< no role > was imediately
taken into Custody and this Informant saith That
the Handkerchief now produced is the same that the Butter
was in last Night at the time it was Stolen but she
Cannot identify it to be the same Cutter

This Informant Thomas Groves< no role > for himself
Saith That he is a Sawyer and lives in Newton Street
aforesaid That upon hearing the Cry of Stop Thief and
Seeing a Man Ran pretty fast he Pursued him and
found him upon a Dunghill under a Staircase in a
Coach Yard about the Middle of the said Street
and no other person was near him at the time and
he secured him
